THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
- One of the challenges for charitable giving is knowing where your donation money goes. Charities have overhead costs. If monetary aid is given to government, how much of that is filtered to those in need? The government of the Philippines scores poorly in terms of corruption and financial and budget openness (source: Transparency International). This is the reason why we want to connect with and donate directly to volunteers we know and grew up with and the organizations they belong to.
- We are not a CRA recognized charity and cannot provide tax receipts, if you are on this site you either know one of us, or know someone who knows one of us. We give you our word because if you know us, our word is everything.
- PayPal charges 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, so a donation of $20 yields $19.18. When we send money to the Philippines, we will cover those charges and any other charges incurred with the transfer in addition to our own donation.
- It will take some time until major relief operations get to little islands like Bantayan and it's surrounding 20 islets, this is why we have chosen to connect to local volunteers on the island.
- If you do not feel comfortable donating through us, please consider donating through organizations like Plan Canada, Red Cross , Humanitarian Coalition, Chalice, Humanitarian Relief and Canadian Medical Assistance Teams. And keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers.
